Youth Spotlight: Miguel

Miguel’s journey with Valley Youth House began in our Lehigh Valley Shelter, where he stayed as a resident. During his stay, our staff members very quickly noticed Miguel’s artistic abilities and how he could use art to express himself.

“Miguel is such an incredible young adult and artist. Ever since I saw him begin his artwork at the shelter, I could tell how much art meant to him,” said VYH Life Skills Counselor, Alli Gillette.

To leave his mark at the Lehigh Valley Shelter, Miguel was allowed to create a painting on the wall. He decided to paint the Disney character Moana, who still to this day lives on the walls of our shelter to serve as an inspiration to youth who pass through.

Miguel’s love for art has grown tremendously and has gotten a lot of exposure for his work throughout the Lehigh Valley, including being featured in art shows and even The Morning Call. Miguel’s goal is to teach and inspire youth to express themselves utilizing art, just as he has throughout his experiences.
