Youth Education Program/SADD participates in Healthy Living Expo
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is a school-based club that is a national initiative. SADD provides peer-to-peer education dedicated to preventing and delaying destructive decisions with a focus on underage drinking, other drug use, distracted and impaired driving, teen violence, and teen suicide. The Youth Education Program of Valley Youth House delivers technical assistance to SADD Chapters by aiding with club recruitment, school-wide awareness activities and county-wide events; support is also provided to schools wishing to start a new chapter.
SADD is on the move and growing strong in the Lehigh Valley. A few of this year’s activities include an Anti-Drug Gift Exchange, the DUI Association Annual Youth Conference and most recently, the SADD Healthy Living Expo. Each year, chapter members from both a Northampton and Lehigh County school district host the Healthy Living Expo as a means to expose other students to healthier choices which are safe and fun alternatives to alcohol and other drug use. Each SADD Chapter hosts a table that is interactive and theme based. Community businesses and providers are also invited to participate. The Healthy Living Expo reached over 1500 students this year.
