VYH Participates in Building Bridges Project
Valley Youth House has submitted photos to The Building Bridges project. This initiative in Allentown will use photography as a means to involve many in the community in conversations about the future of a city in immense transition. This will be the first attempt to engage all segments of the community, from the business owner to the laborer, from mothers to students, from hospital workers to doctors, from elected officials to clergy, from artists to financial managers, from police to educators, who have not yet been part of the dialogue that has led to the deep changes occurring throughout the city they have lived or worked in for most of their lives.
It is the initiative’s hope to engage hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals and community organizations from all sectors of Allentown in a photographic dialogue expressing personal and organizational visions of what Allentown is and can be. Photographs will be displayed at central locations in the community and on-line. Conversations based on those photographs, and the visions they express, will occur throughout the city designed to engage many and open eyes as to the wide variety of perspectives on the strengths, challenges, and aspirations for our community from those in our community, about our community. The goal is to identify the community’s needs and have a direct impact on the social changes that are enveloping us all.
