Two Rivers Roller Derby Hosts Bout to Support VYH
Two Rivers Roller Derby, based in the Lehigh Valley, hosted a FUN-draiser bout to support our street outreach program, The Synergy Project. Team skaters, plus skaters from area leagues, were on the track in this unique mixer-style bout. What made this bout so special? The audience controlled the game! That’s right….the audience had the power to pay to “bail” skaters from the penalty box, throw referees into the action, add points to the scoreboard, and so much more! A portion of proceeds from the event benefitted The Synergy Project! VYH staff were on hand to witness the action and pass out information about VYH programs and services.
The Synergy Project, a street outreach program, is designed to help runaway, homeless, nomadic and street youth, age 21 and under, in Allentown, Bucks County, and Philadelphia. The program offers survival supplies, peer support, informal counseling, information and referral services and assistance to get off the streets, if desired. Street Outreach coordinators spend most of their time in the Synergy Project Jeep or walking, kayaking and biking to remote areas to meet with young people who tend to settle in places that are not easily accessible, assisting them to find permanent housing or making it safer for them to be on the streets.
Thanks, Two Rivers Roller Derby!
