Student Assistance Program (SAP)

What is SAP?

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Student Assistance Program, is designed to assist school personnel in identifying issues such as alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, and mental health concerns which can pose an obstacle to a student’s success. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome these barriers in order that they may remain in school, achieve, and advance.

Valley Youth House has been the Northampton County, public school districts’ provider of school-based mental health services for nearly twenty years, and SAP Liaison services for over ten years.

School Based Counseling

The Valley Youth House Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides short-term mental health counseling services to virtually every public school in Northampton County and selected elementary schools within the Allentown School District. Services are delivered at school sites and the program maintains a “no turn down” policy regarding referrals. Community linkages will be made for any student who requires additional resources. For more information about SAP at your child’s school or to make a referral, please contact your child’s school counselor.
