As a Valley Youth House volunteer you will have to opportunity to help us pursue our mission of empowering and strengthening the lives of children, youth, and families through inclusive programming that builds resilience and fosters growth and independence.
Volunteers will work on-site at Camp Fowler and assist the Camp Director with various maintenance projects, such as painting, installing rubber base molding, cleaning, and raking leaves. Volunteers with higher skill sets are also needed for more advanced projects.
Career Assist Network (CAN) Volunteers will work with VYH clients to provide guidance on employment goals and/or host a youth to job shadow. Scheduling is flexible, based on the volunteer’s availability.
Community Activities Workshops consist of service learning field trips, experiential education, cultural workshops, and community outings. The goal of these workshops is to help youth build community in and outside of the Achieving Independence Center. Volunteers are invited to co-facilitate activities along with a VYH staff member.
Volunteers will organize and maintain our donation storage area at our Bucks County Shelter by sorting items, folding clothing, creating a system, and maintaining a safe and clean space.
Employment classes are offered at 1pm, 4pm, and 5pm Monday through Thursday. Topics covered include first impressions, job searching, resume building, and interview skills. Volunteers are invited to present or co-present with a VYH staff member.
Topics covered include goal planning, budgeting, permanent connections, landlord and tenant rights, communication, and conflict resolution. Volunteers are invited to present or co-present with a VYH staff member on a specific Life Skills and Housing topic.
Youth Count volunteers help to conduct a quarterly survey of youth experiencing homelessness in the city of Philadelphia. Additional details can be found here for the next count.
