Wish List

Valley Youth House serves more than 10,000 children and families each year, many of whom lack the material basics of life.  More than 200 kids sleep under our roofs each night.  We have four group homes and well over 100 apartments.  To care for that many adolescents requires a lot of stuff:

Used Furniture in good and usable condition

  • Beds, dressers and other bedroom furniture
  • Couches and other living room furniture
  •  Tables, chairs, and other kitchen/dining room furniture
  • Cribs and other furniture for babies (must meet safety requirements)
  • Working TVs
  • Office Furniture for the staff
    • Desks
    • Chairs
    • File cabinets

Household Items

  • Plates, flatware, glasses, cooking and other kitchen and dining utensils
  • Blenders, microwaves and other small kitchen appliances
  • Cleaning, kitchen and bathroom supplies
  • Sporting Goods

Health and Beauty Aids

Our kids want to look nice and practice good hygiene.  Providing the “little extras” is appreciated!

  • Toothpaste/brushes
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Body lotions and sprays
  • Mouthwash
  • Combs and brushes
  • “Shower caddie” kits
  • Hair dryers and curling irons
  • Soap

Clothing

Some kids come to us with just the clothes on their backs.  Some children stay with us for a year or more, and a funny thing happens – seasons change and kids grow, so gifts of brand new clothing is always appreciated.

Many of the children we serve in our counseling programs come from families that cannot always afford the very best.  They also appreciate gifts of clothing.

Gift certificates are also good – particularly for footwear

Education, Culture, and Recreation

Part of Valley Youth House’s positive youth development philosophy includes engaging our young people in as many community, educational, and cultural experiences as possible.  You can help with gifts of:

  • Books
  • Bookbags
  • Planners
  • Puzzles, Games
  • Videos, DVD’s
  • Tickets to sporting events, concerts, movies, museums, and plays.
  • Other activities that enrich the children’s lives.

Technology

Our kids are also students, and they frequently find themselves disadvantaged in school because homework increasingly requires access to a computer, so gifts of technology are always useful.

Our staff is also relatively disadvantaged in terms of technology.  Upgrades in our capability help us better serve our kids and families.  We need:

  • PCs
  • Laptops
  • Printers
  • Advice of computer professionals

Automobiles

Transportation is often  a huge issue for the families we serve.  In today’s society it is often to get to places of employment without a car, so gifts of used autos are definitely welcome.

All in-kind gifts in good and usable condition will be properly acknowledged and are tax deductible.
