Year 2005 Highlights
  • Expansion of our service into Philadelphia County by opening a Supportive Housing Program in Center City. We are already seeing great success in helping youth develop life skills and long-term career goals that will support the individual's self-sufficiency.

  • Camp Horseshoe in Orefield, PA (now named Camp Fowler) was purchased in December of 2004 to be utilized not simply for recreation but also for therapeutic programs and to further our mission of helping troubled children. Through a generous in-kind grant, two teams of AmeriCorps volunteers provided their services to help improve the camp. A third team will be servicing the camp in 2006. In addition, a Capital Campaign was begun to help with this project's goals.

  • The Student Assistance Program expanded its Northampton County origins and began providing counseling to elementary school students in the Northern Lehigh School District and initiated a mentoring program in the Northampton School District. A Strengthening Families Program began serving mothers who are inmates in Northampton County Prison, with a similar project being planned for men.

  • In addition:

  • 7,254 children received services through various agency programs

  • The Shelter Hotline answered 1,418 emergency calls

  • 303 items (food, blankets, clothing, etc.) were provided to street youth through the Street Outreach Program

  • 306 participants in Parenting Education Summits and Forums
